Relationship with Vets:

  • Pets Travel has strong, mutually respectful relationships with veterinarians.
  • Vets play a crucial role in signing off on health certificates and export certificates.
  • Pets Travel’s extensive knowledge of documentation and its integrity ensures professional and ethical collaboration with veterinarians.
  • These relationships enable quick problem-solving and efficient coordination in various scenarios.

International animal transport and relocation require pet owners to abide by certain veterinary regulations, especially regarding vaccinations. However, the exact requirements vary by country. This makes it very important to consult a veterinarian who specialises in international travel requirements and who is always up to date with regulatory changes in different countries.

We have excellent relationships with veterinarians across the globe, thanks to our vast network of pet professionals. As members of IPATA (the International Pet and Animal Transportation Association), we have access to industry stakeholders including those involved in veterinary care. These relationships are based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to the well-being of your beloved pets.

Special requirements need special service providers

You may adore your veterinarian and trust them completely with your pet’s healthcare, but the chances are very good that they don’t have all of the information you need to transport your pet safely to your new home in a different country. For that knowledge, you need a specialist in pet relocation.

It’s not unusual for a country to suddenly change their requirements regarding the vaccinations they need and the quarantine period (perhaps as a result of a sudden outbreak of rabies). In fact, it doesn’t matter where you go in the world, your pet will need a valid rabies vaccination. To be valid, the vaccination mustn’t be fewer than 30 days before travel and not more than one year.

Other potential requirements include blood tests for heartworm and vaccines for tick-borne diseases.

The one requirement that is universal is a microchip. Most countries that allow you to emigrate or travel with your pets specify that animals must be microchipped. In South Africa, it’s actually compulsory for animals travelling outside of the country to be chipped.

All animals also need an up-to-date health certificate before they can travel across borders. Vets specialising in international travel can sign off on health certificates and export certificates if needed.

Pets Travel Collaborates With Professional and Ethical Veterinarians

Our extensive experience in international travel for pets has given us in-depth knowledge of what countries tend to require before allowing animals to enter, but we always refer clients to trusted veterinarians when it comes to healthcare.

Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with a network of IPATA vets who are both ethical and knowledgeable. By leveraging these relationships, we can provide quick problem-solving in emergencies and troubleshoot scenarios in which your pet might need medical intervention.

It’s essential that you find out about your pet’s medical requirements long before your travel date arrives. Some tests and vaccines are time sensitive and a couple of days either way could invalidate all of your preparations, making it necessary to start from scratch. Consulting one of the vets on our network can save you time and money, and ensure the travel process remains on track and on schedule.

Contact us if you need additional information regarding specialist veterinary care providers and we’ll be glad to point you towards a trusted veterinarian. You can also request a free quote to find out more about the costs associated with local and international relocation for your pets.

What makes Pets Travel Unique?

As one of the oldest pet and animal moving companies in South Africa, we have a few tricks up our sleeve to provide extra value. For instance, our pet handlers include animal behaviourists who ensure that your pet receives attention and care specific to their needs.

We also have boarding facilities that provide all the comforts of home. Pet handlers at our boarding facilities are trained to work with animals who are in distress as a result of all the upheaval. A benefit that our company provides that’s likely lacking in other couriers is that we learn about our boarders’ personalities and can further tailor our travel services to their needs.
